Our Inn is a
very quiet place, perfect for contemplation of nature or bird watching. As
well as tranquil patio areas for rest, we provide many intimate seating
areas on the property. Even if the Inn is full, we can guarantee you will
find a peaceful spot for yourself. All of the rooms provide spectacular
vistas of coffee plantations, or of mountains or the Central Valley.
From the Inn, you can see three volcanoes of the Central Valley(Poas,
Barva and Irazu). In the common living room and lobby area, we have books
and magazines, and a small fridge for your personal wine or drinks.
Dining: Located adjacent to the entrance of El Cafetal is a
nice local restaurant/bar, "RESTAURANTE EL JARDIN", serving
typical Costa Rican "Tico" food, very good and reasonably
priced. It is open daily until 10 p.m. and is an excellent place to
experience local color, as well as to practice your Spanish. They will
deliver if requested.
Just outside the
Inn is a "Mom and Pop" style convenience store where you can buy
ice cream or snacks, or you can drive to the town of Atenas (10 minutes)
where there is a variety of Good local restaurants ranging
from typical Costa Rican foods to Mexican, Italian and Chinese.
Another option is to visit our own restaurant, EL MIRADOR DEL CAFETAL,
located not far from the town of Atenas 10 minutes over the hill on
the road to Orotina. We offer thirty-five different indigenous dishes and
19 varieties of cappuccinos. From the bar, daiquiris and beers are
available, and we sell our own locally grown coffee, La Negrita, as well
as pre-Columbian souvenirs! If you would
like a special dinner at the Inn, Romy (an excellent chef!) can provide
you with a buffet, which includes wine and dessert. We do need some
notice, before 9am and it's not possible for same day arrivals.
Tours: For more information on the twenty-five (25) tours offered from the Inn, please visit our web sites at www.cafetal.com or www.hotelcafetalinn.com The area in which we are privileged to be located is enjoying tremendous popularity, and we now have an Aerial Tram just 25 minutes away by car. The largest butterfly garden in Costa Rica is an easy day trip, as well as Volcano Poas, La Paz Waterfalls, Los Angeles Cloud Forest, Canopy Tours, horseback riding, river rafting and the beaches of Playa Hermosa, Herradura, and Jaco. Less than one hour from the Inn are the picturesque towns of Grecia, Sarchi, Zarcero and Palmares. Zoo Ave, a unique zoo (displaying all sorts of birds), and a Snake farm are both only 14 kilometers away. Twenty-five minutes by car will take you to the train depot for a train ride on the old Costa Rica line--it only runs on weekends. The capital city of San Jose is just 45 minutes away. The international airport is only 19 kilometers from the Inn.
getting here: El Cafetal Inn is just 20 minutes from the International airport in San José, take the Road to San Ramon drive for 20 minutes and exit on the GRECIA intersection. Drive less than a mile and then take the FIRST LEFT that will take you underneath the bridge STRAIGHT for 3 miles we are on the right side next to RESTAURANTE EL JARDIN we have signs to direct the traffic.
