covert cabin

property description: Woodsman's cabin, situated on the bank of it's own little lake, within six acres of mature woodland provides the perfect antidote to the stresses of busy, modern-day life. Providing comfortable accommodation for two, it has the look and feel of a pioneer's cabin whilst still providing today's necessary comforts. The cabin is 'off-grid', so lighting is provided by a combination of candles, oil lamps, solar and wind-up lights. It has a fully equipped kitchen with gas cooker and fridge, and is kept toasty warm in winter by the woodburning stove, which also heats the water for the outside shower/wc.

The whole ethos of the cabin is to provide a welcome retreat with minimal impact on the environment. Ecologically, the cabin has a low carbon impact. It was built from windfall wood from the forest it stands in and other reclaimed materials. Water is raised from the source-fed lake via a handpump and filtered, making it fine for all purposes other than drinking. (Drinking water is provided.) Firewood is gathered from the surrounding forest. Waste is recycled/composted and only eco-friendly cleaning products are used. You can help to offset your carbon emissions if you fly here by planting a tree in the woods.

Birds, natural flora and fauna are all on your doorstep, we provide you with guidebooks on what you might see. In the lake there are fish, frogs, you can take the little boat out and paddle around the island or lay on the raft and sunbathe. There are miles & miles of off-road tracks for walking and cycling, maps are provided and bike hire is available. It's one of the best ways to see the surrounding countryside.

accommodation: Woodsman's cabin sleeps two (one double bed). The bedroom is small, but comfortable, the window provides a great view of the lake and surrounding woodland. Bedlinen and towels are provided. There is a well-equipped kitchen, with gas cooker and fridge, all necessary pots and pans and a few basic essentials, (Like a bottle of wine!) There's a cosy seating area. There are books, games, drawing and writing materials as well as the wind-up gramophone and radio! Outside there is a raised deck with table and seating for four, and a BBQ. In the outside shower/wc there's a composting loo and basin, and shower with timer so you only use the water you really need.
