property description:  heating and hot water is supplemented by solar panels on the roof, all light bulbs are low-energy, there is a wood-burning stove in the inglenook fireplace (with our own logs), all rubbish is recycled including compost, electricity is on a ‘green’ tariff, we supply eco-friendly cleaning materials and complimentary body care products, the garden is enclosed with living willow fences and the land is managed under an agri-environmental agreement.               

Our North Wales holiday home has a 4* grading from the Wales Tourist Board and is secluded but not remote, tucked away at the top of its own drive off a minor road.  Set in 14 hectares of traditionally-managed fields, on the very border of the Snowdonia National Park , we have 360 degree views: mountains to the North and the skies over Cardigan Bay to the South.

accommodation: Ynys Pandy has 4 upstairs bedrooms.  2 doubles (including one with a cot), 1 twin, and 1 full-sized bunk bed.  They are all individually furnished and all have an interesting selection of books to enjoy in bed!  A stair gate is provided and all beds are made up ready for your arrival.

The recently refitted downstairs bathroom has a walk-in shower and separate bath with a hand-held shower and is complete with shaving socket, fluffy towels and complimentary  eco-friendly body care products.

Just next door is the additional cloakroom – useful for the morning rush!

The utility room houses a belfast sink, full-size dishwasher, washing machine, a ‘sheila maid’ for drying, the central heating boiler and the recycling bins.  Ecover dishwasher tablets, rinse aid, washing up liquid and laundry liquid are all provided.

The newly fitted farmhouse kitchen is very well equipped and tea towels, dishcloth, all cleaning materials, kitchen paper, bin bags, foil, food wrap etc are all provided.   

There is a breakfast room at one end seating 8 comfortably including a high chair, where you will find an afternoon tea of Welsh Cakes waiting for you to enjoy on your arrival.

The lounge is cosy, homely and comfortable with it’s traditional beamed ceiling and inglenook fireplace housing a multi-fuel stove, including a first supply of coal, logs, sticks, firelighters and matches.  The walls are lined with an eclectic mix of  books including local interest/walks and maps, brochures advertising local attractions and on the desk, the weekly local newspaper.  There are cupboards filled with games and jigsaws, but also it provides all the modern ‘essentials’ such as Freeview T.V., DVD, music centre and free broadband connection..

The centrally-heated conservatory is used all year round, with a huge dining table at one end and relaxing area the other.  On the wall is a map of North Wales so you can plan your days out exploring the area.  From the conservatory you can access the lawned garden, defined by living willow fences and shrubs.  Here you will find a children’s play area with playframe/swings, a table and benches and plenty of space.  A barbecue is available including charcoal for al fresco meals and also folding armchairs for relaxing in the sun and at the end of the garden is the gate for access to the fields.

We also accept up to two pets, usually dogs, bearing in mind that there are sheep in the fields and that we have three dogs and three cats.

surroundings: Ynys Pandy is beautifully secluded, but not remote, tucked away off a minor road, which forms the border of the Snowdonia National Park .  A tree-lined private drive leads from the road (opposite a working Woollen Mill) to the house, where there is ample parking space.  The views are of mountains – Cwm Pennant, Moel Hebog and Craig y Garn.  You can walk down to the river with it’s perfect Pooh Sticks bridge and stepping stones, where the local children swim in the summer.   Our Visitors’ Book is full of praise – a recent comment from one of our guests – “I love Wales anyway, but the location here cannot be beaten I am sure for access to the best bits such as Anglesey , Snowdonia and Llyn Peninsular.”

As well as the mountains and beaches (Black Rock Sands, Criccieth and Harlech), which are ideal for exploring, walking, climbing or relaxing, there are numerous activities and attractions close by.   Indeed the road at the bottom of the drive is on National Cycle Route 8 – Lon Las Cymru (check out www.sustrans.org.uk ).  Why not hire bicycles?  They can be hired and delivered from www.beicsmenai.co.uk .  For shopping, the seaside towns of  Porthmadog, Criccieth, Pwllheli, Caernarfon and Bangor are all within easy reach.  Then there are narrow-gauge railways – Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Light, slate caverns, copper mines, castles and the wonderful Italianate village of Porthmeirion .

BY ROAD

From the North, take the A55 to Caernarfon then the A 487 to Porthmadog.  4 miles before Porthmadog turn left to the Brynkir Woollen Mill and Golan.  Ynys Pandy is directly opposite the Mill on the right.

From the South and Midlands take the A5 or A470 and come via Porthmadog.  Take the road to Tremadog, then left to Caernarfon.  2 miles after Tremadog turn right for the Brynkir Woollen Mill and Golan.  Ynys Pandy is on the left opposite the Mill.
